Assistant Manager
Brian Miller, Forensic Accounting, Edinburgh office
Qualifications
MA Accounting & Finance (Hons)
Chartered Accountant
Current role
I support Greig Rowand and Frank McMorrow in the forensic department. My day to day work involves digesting a large amount of information, putting it into sensible order, analysing it, coming to a conclusion and drafting a report based on these conclusions.
Never a dull day
The forensic department is constantly busy! There is not much time to draw breath and juggling work always keeps you on your toes. It is certainly not a position for someone who wants the same work day in day out.
A genuine interest in our clients
A lot of our work involves court cases and sometimes complex financial structures. Working in the forensic department involves going into a lot of detail and ensuring you know everything inside out. From that perspective it is important to have a genuine interest both in the work you are doing and the cases you are involved with.
Getting more responsibility
From day one at Henderson Loggie it was clear that my levels of responsibility were greater than before. The sheer volume of different jobs on the go at the same time means time and project management are paramount. The main responsibility of course being to ensure that deadlines are met!
A good day is when …
You have all the information you need; it has arrived on time; all of your questions have been answered; there is no time limit on your work; and your conclusions are straight forward.
A bad day is when …
Any (or all!) of the above don’t happen.
Advice for someone joining the firm
Henderson Loggie will treat you well but will expect the same in return from you. Remember not just to work hard, but to play hard.
