Accountancy Assistant
Pamela Reid, Audit Department, Dundee office
Qualifications
AAT – Technician Level
Sage Line 50 – level 1 & 2
Current role
As an Accounts Assistant I have various responsibilities within the accounts area. From the compilation of VAT returns, management accounts, accounts preparations, and occasionally I assisting on audits. Also because I have been on courses for Sage Line 50 accounts and Viztopia accounts production, if any Henderson Loggie employees have any problems or questions when using Sage, I assist them and help to solve any issues.
Why I’m with Henderson Loggie
One of the main factors for choosing Henderson Loggie was that they were offering me the training that I was looking for, and I felt the organisation and culture suited me best.
Never a dull day
No two jobs are the same at Henderson Loggie, therefore you receive a degree of variety with the jobs. Some clients do present challenging problems, however it’s all part of the learning process, as you can’t know everything straight away. A genuine interest in our clients Over the three years that I have worked with Henderson Loggie, I have come across many different clients with various businesses ranging from a small clothing boutique to a large construction company and many others. Often when going to clients they will show you around their facilities, this helps to give a better view of how the business operates and sometimes what exactly the job is about.
Becoming a trusted adviser to clients
Making a good first impression is key to building a good relationship with a client. It is much easier to complete a job if you have a good rapport with the client, as you may have to ask the client various questions to answer any queries you might have.
Getting more responsibilities
With more of the bookkeeping side to accounts I have been given more responsibility with dealing with clients who are using the accounting software, Sage. Also if anyone in the office is having problems with Sage or Viztopia, I’ll always try to use the training I have been given to help those in need.
My ambitions
I would like to continue expanding my knowledge of accountancy, and I would even like to do more exams to achieve the ACCA qualification. Hopefully as Henderson Loggie continues growing as a firm it will provide the opportunities I need to achieve this.
A good day is when …
All the client information needed has been handed in and most importantly the bank does not take long to reconcile.
A bad day is when …
There are occasions when we might experience a slight technical problem, which can result in delays to the work that’s in progress, but thanks to our IT staff, these problems never last for very long.
